Just Keep Swimming, Swimming

Never, ever ever ever ever give up.” Winston Churchill

If you keep trying, you just might win.

Failure is not an option. – Failure is also a state of mind.

About 50% of college graduates are unemployed. Of the 50% that are employed, many of them are not working in the profession they went to college for or in any “professional” job. And some fields are hit harder than others.

Computer animation (aka: Visual effect) jobs are going overseas where labor is cheap and countries offer tax incentives that America doesn’t. A few recent examples:

  • Rhythm & Hues Studios Inc, who won the Oscar for their 3D visual effects in Life of Pi, laid off their visual effects staff and filed bankruptcy in America, then opened a studio in Taiwan with space for 200 artists.

  • DreamWorks Animation laid off 350 animators and tech staff, then opened Oriental DreamWorks in China.

  • Disney laid off 150 employees, and then laid off another 100, but opened Pixar Canada and hired about 80 animators.

To put this in perspective, draw a dot. Draw a circle the size of a dime around it. Draw a circle the size of a fifty cent piece around it. And draw larger circle around that. – The big circle is the world. The fifty cent piece is America. The dime is your state. You are the dot.

You have control of the dot. So do your best every day. Never, ever ever give up. If you don’t give up, you just might win.

Failure is a state of mind. If one thing isn’t working out, try something else.

And remember, “That’s okay.” 🙂

About Faye Lynn

Barefoot and Breathless is a contemporary romance, chick-lit, women's fiction novel about a single mother looking for love, dealing with her son's growing independence, overcoming a past abusive relationship, trying to stay true to her morals, and teaching in a public at-risk school. It's a light, fun read with a writing style of Rachel Gibson meets Janet Evanovich. Like the heroine in Barefoot and Breathless, I'm a teacher, yogi, and single mother. I hope you enjoy reading my posts, and I look forward to reading your comments. Carpe Diem, Faye Lynn
